How Long Do Shock Absorbers Last?

The life expectancy of Shock absorbers is at least 4 to 5 years. But, it actually depends on the road conditions. The lifespan can extend to even 10 years if you drive the car mostly on smooth roads. Similarly, it can be shorter than 5 years if you mostly drive on uneven roads filled with cracks, bumps, or potholes. However, the real determining factor is where you drive and how you drive. For instance, if you do a lot of off-road driving, or spend a lot of time on dirt roads, your shocks will wear out much more quickly.

Some experts use distance as an indicator of the health of shocks. This is around 80 000 Kilometres. Jump over to this article to test your shocks.

If you are unsure of the condition of your shocks book your car in at one of our nationwide workshops and let one of our expert technicians take a look.

Our preferred suppliers for shock absorbers are KYB and SACHS but if you prefer a specific brand just give your closest e-CAR Workshop a call and they will be able to assist you.

How many shocks should you replace at one time?

Shocks and struts should always be replaced in pairs. Front or Back or, better yet, all four, for even, predictable handling and control. After all, all four have been on the vehicle for the same number of kilometers and worked under the same conditions.
